The Team Lead, Protection and Testing, Engr Tukur Biliya Bakori said the exercise was carried out to checkmate the activities of quacks under Kaduna Electric franchise areas. According to him, “Actually the whole exercise was fair and transparent. They were made to go through some processes, ranging from computer based test and oral interview. This enables us to determine their ability to some certain level. We categorised the exercise into four different stages depending on their qualification, experience and technical know-how.
” In this regard we placed the successful ones based on their performance to where they rightfully belong but not what they wish to be. Adding that at the end of the exercise, the quacks have no role to play and were easily eliminated from carrying out all types of activities on our network”. He stated.
Meanwhile, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has commended Kaduna Electric for recertification of electrical contractors willing to undertake electrical installations in Kaduna Electric franchise areas. In a letter addressed to the Managing Director/CEO, dated 16th January, 2018, signed by the Registrar Engr W. Kamila Maliki, FNSE, mni said “I write to commend your initiative for embarking on recertification of all electrical contractors handling jobs with KAEDCO, aimed at ensuring that the contractors have basic knowledge and understanding of electric standards and safety.
He then called on government and private organizations to enforce electric standard and safety. “For emphasis, he said Council wishes to reiterate the fact that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government, as well as the private sector are under obligation to demand for COREN practicing license for pre-qualification of companies wishing to do engineering jobs. As a matter of fact, no engineering firm (Consulting or Contracting) should practice engineering without being registered with COREN and having a valid COREN practicing license. Failure to comply is illegal and a contravention of Engineers (Registration, etc.) Act CAP E11, 2014. He warned.
