Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has advised electricity consumers in Kebbi state to always pay their bills to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to ensure 24 Hours electricity supply in the state.
He said this at an interaction with the Press on Sunday, at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
He remarked that electricity generation and distribution is now undertaken by private companies hence they need thr cooperation of all to make privatisation a success.
“The distribution companies pay for what is delivered to them by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, and where they are unable to collect from customers, the supply may not be maintained”, he said.
The Governor lamented that while the State Government had spent over huge sums of money to support Kaduna Electric and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to achieve 24 hours supply to all parts of the state, the failure of customers to pay their bills is now making it difficult for Kaduna Electric to sustain the uninterrupted supply.
At the interaction, which had in attendance prominent Government officials and representatives of Kaduna Electric and TCN, it was disclosed that in February 2019 alone, about Nine Hundred Million Naira worth of electricity was supplied to the State but payment by customers was just under Three Hundred Million Naira.
The governor also mentioned that at a meeting he held with senior management of Kaduna Electric earlier in the week he was assured that one of the approved Meter Asset Providers is coming to install meters and bring to an end estimated billing.
He urged customers in the state to reciprocate by performing their obligations and ensure that Kebbi state continues to enjoy 24 hours electricity supply.
