YUSUF HAMISU ABUBAKAR
Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar is a trained lawyer, an accomplished administrator and businessman with vast experience at senior executive level in the Private and Public sectors.
Born 51 years ago in Kaduna, Nigeria, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. Yusuf graduated from Bayero University, Kano [BUK] with a Law degree and later obtained an MBA from the University of Exeter, UK.
Yusuf taught Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and ABU, Zaria, after which he went into private practice setting up Yusuf Abubakar & Co. (Equity Chambers).
In 1992, Yusuf went into the public sector where he worked with the Kaduna State Government as Commissioner for Health and Social Development, Commissioner for Finance and Director General, Bureau for Lands and Survey. At the Federal level, he was the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund and was also a Commissioner of the Nigerian Communication Commission.
Yusuf is a recipient of numerous awards in the course of his academic pursuit including best graduating Law student in BUK and a number of prizes in the Nigerian Law School.
He is a member of professional organizations including the Nigerian Bar Association; Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, Institute of Directors and the International Bar Association. He is also an Eisenhower Fellow (EF).
Yusuf has investments in banking, insurance, real estate, energy and power. He is currently the Board Chairman of Niger Insurance Plc, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company Plc, Sahelian Energy and Northwest Power Ltd and a Board Member of Kano Electricity Distribution Company Plc and Healthstone HMO Ltd.
He is a recipient of the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Engr. Garba Haruna is a graduate of Greater Manchester University Salford, United Kingdom, where obtained Masters in Gas Engineering and Management, he also attended Aberdeen college of Engineering Scotland UK, Shell UK Petroleum Training institute where he specializes in Liquified Natural Gas production, instrumentation and controls and Electrical Equipment in Hazardous environment.
He is a registered Member of United Kingdom Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers MIGEM, American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME, Nigerian Society of Engineers and Council for Regulation of Engineers in Nigeria COREN,.He is a seasoned technocrat with more than 25 years working career in world-class organizations and history of excellence.
Engr. Haruna has history of management of utilities in both gas and power, with spiraling record of achievements. He is a pioneer Director in several companies including public liability companies. He is a Director in Sahelian Power and Northwest Power Ltd, Co investors of Kano and Kaduna Electricity Distribution Companies worth N200 billion value with over 5 million households customer base that covers the whole of Northwestern Nigeria comprising Kano, katsina, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states. A pioneer member of the largest Gas pipeline Distribution network in west Africa worth Billions of Naira, Director in Gasland Company Ltd.
Engr. Haruna was instrumental to record acquisition and operation of Gas Utility in the biggest City in Sub-Saharan Africa (Lagos City) which transformed in to Gaslink Nigeria Limited He was also the Technical Director in the record acquisition of Kano Distribution Company where he was Executive Director in charge of Operations.
He saw a growth of about 35% increase in revenues, while ensuring increase of energy and deployment of cost-effective world class GIS monitoring systems. Engr. Haruna further championed the acquisition of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company which is the largest Power distribution company in Nigeria.
The Board appointed Engr. Haruna as the pioneer MD/CEO of the newly privatized Distribution Company He had undertaken many technical and management courses in Renewable Energy and fossil fuels both in Nigeria and Overseas. Among others include Core competence training institute in Scotland, Has attended courses and hands on training on Gas turbines in Nevada United States, LNG design In Glasgow United Kingdom, International Safety Management System British Safety Council (BSC), United Kingdom, London Institute of Directors, just to mentined a few. Also a member of many associations including Nigerian Gas Assiciation, Nigerian Gas and Power Professionals, United Kingdom Institution of Gas and Engineers, International Institute of Risks and Safety Managers. Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer
Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna is the MD/CEO of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). He has extensive commercial and managerial experience at the executive and board levels in the utility, heavy equipment distribution and manufacturing businesses. After his graduation from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Dr Gwamna started work with the Nigerian Bank of Commerce and Industry in Abeokuta. He switched from finance to industry, when he joined Kaduna Aluminium Ltd and later Kaduna Machine Works as Group Chief Accountant. In preparation for an executive position, Dr Gwamna was initially promoted to Marketing Manager before being appointed General Manager of Kaduna Machine Works.
In 1990 he left to manage his own business – Amstrade Ventures Limited – a company which imports and sells heavy-duty earth moving equipment. He was also the managing director and co-founder of Jamen Consultancy. In 2000, he started working in the utility sector when he accepted the position of the first Executive Chairman of Gombe State Water Corporation. Prior to taking up the position of MD/CEO at KEDCO, Dr Gwamna had served as Managing Director at Sahelian Energy and Integrated Services Ltd.
He has championed the accomplishments of several business organisations in Nigeria, he is also the Sadauna of Gombe. Dr Gwamna’s astute leadership while serving at various capacities had earned him multi-dimensional experience in the business world. He obtained his Doctorate Degree from the London Metropolitan University in 2008.
Mallam Garba Imam holds a B.Sc Second Class Upper Degree (Hons) in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a Masters of Social Science Degree from Birmingham University, United Kingdom. He also obtained a PGD in Agricultural Development from Imperial College, University of London. His work experience spans over 38 years beginning with the Kano State Civil Service as Executive and Administrative Officer in Governor’s Office and also served in several other capabilities, which include Assistant Secretary (Project Planning) and Chief Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Kano State Agricultural Development Authority. He started his banking career in 1985 with Chase Merchant Bank Nigeria Ltd (Continental Merchant Bank Plc) as Credit/Financial Analyst and later became Assistant General Manager and Divisional Head, Corporate Banking, Lagos. He joined African International Bank Limited in 1996 and became Deputy General Manager in charge of Operations, Corporate Banking, Risk Management, Branch Supervision, Corporate Finance and Lagos Regional Business Development Department. In 2002, he joined the Board of NAL Bank Plc (now Sterling Bank Plc) as a Non – Executive Director, and became Executive Director in 2003, where he served in various capacities including Corporate Banking, Retail Banking South, Treasury and Public Sector, and Management Services. Mallam Imam retired from services of the Bank in August, 2011 having attained the retirement age. In November 2011, Mallam Imam was appointed as a Non – Executive Director at Enterprise Bank Limited by AMCON where he served as Chairman of the Board’s Credit and Risk Management Committees. Currently, Mallam Imam serves on the Boards of Ecobank Nigeria Limited as Non-Executive Director; Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company Limited; Nigerian Stockbrokers Limited; H. Pierson Associates, SKAN Investments Limited and NIGACHEM Nigeria Limited. Mallam Imam is a Fellow, Chartered Institute of Management, UK. Fellow, Institute of Credit Administrators, Honorary Senior Member, Chartered Institute of Bankers, Fellow, Institute of Directors, and Member, Bank Directors Association of Nigeria.
