We are building a team of visionary, value-driven professionals to shape the future of power distribution across our franchise states—Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide strategic leadership, direction, guidance and executive oversight for the Kaduna Electric’s core operational functions, Technical, Commercial, Operations and Customer Service. The role holder will also be responsible for driving operational excellence, reducing Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses, improving grid reliability, and championing a culture of safety and performance accountability. .
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute long-term operational strategies aligned with Kaduna Electric’s business goals and regulatory mandates.
- Optimize network availability and reliability by overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance frameworks for injection substations, distribution transformers, and lines.
- Provide executive oversight for major capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, ensuring network expansion and rehabilitation projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to technical specifications.
- Drive the reduction of ATC&C losses through robust engineering solutions, aggressive revenue protection strategies, and innovative metering rollouts
- Promote Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) culture across all technical and field operations.
- Ensure strict compliance with all industry regulations, grid codes, and statutory environmental guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with the commercial and revenue assurance teams to optimize billing accuracy, expand the customer base, and maximize collection efficiency.
- Oversee the implementation of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI/smart meters) and distribution automation to curb energy theft and bypass.
- Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and customer-centricity.
- Drive the adoption of modern utility technologies like SCADA, GIS mapping, and automated outage management systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
- A Master’s degree (M.Sc./MBA) or relevant professional certifications will be a distinct advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 12 years’ experience in the power or utility sector, of which at least 5 years should be in a top managerial capacity.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Deep knowledge of power distribution engineering, grid operations, load shedding management, smart metering, and ATC&C loss reduction methodologies.
- RStrong understanding of utility economics, regulatory frameworks, tariff structures, and commercial revenue cycles.
- Proven track record of managing large, diverse technical and field teams, managing complex stakeholder relationships, and driving corporate turnaround strategies.
Company Secretary
To provide effective advisory services and guidance to the Board on strategic legal decisions for Kaduna Electric while managing the Board’s secretariat duties and safeguarding the company’s interests across all regulatory, contractual, and litigation matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, coordinate, and service meetings of the Board of Directors and Board Committees, ensuring proper recording and dissemination of minutes and resolutions.
- Ensure timely filing of annual returns, resolutions, and structural changes with the corporate registry.
- Advise the Board and executive leadership on legal duties, corporate governance best practices, and statutory obligations.
- Manage the annual Board evaluation process, onboarding of new members, and continuous professional development.
- Serve as the principal liaison between Kaduna Electric and regulators including NERC, NEMSA, CAC, and other statutory bodies.
- Oversee the company's litigation portfolio and manage external counsel to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Monitor compliance with electricity laws, market rules, Grid Codes, licensing conditions, and maintain statutory corporate records.
Education
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university.
- Barrister-at-Law (BL) certification enabling legal practice.
- LLM, MBA, or ICSAN (or equivalent professional certification) is highly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years post-call experience.
- At least 3 years in a senior corporate governance or company secretarial role.
- Experience within the utility, energy, or oil & gas sectors is preferred.
Professional Qualifications
- Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSAN) certification is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
- Additional legal or management certifications are an advantage.
Key Competencies
- Strong knowledge of corporate law, NERC regulations, and commercial contract drafting.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and operate independently with high ethical standards.
