Kaduna Electric organized a Customer Engagement Forum in Kebbi State on Wednesday bringing together customers, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, and other stakeholders to discuss the challenges in the demand & supply of power, desired electricity supply improvements, and collaborative solutions needed.
The event aimed to foster dialogue, share updates on company & industry initiatives, and address issues impacting service delivery. Deputy Managing Director Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed emphasized the need for community collaboration, acknowledging ongoing efforts to resolve challenges while urging traditional leaders to sensitize residents on timely bill payments, which directly influence power supply stability.
He highlighted improved revenue collection, though not sufficient in meeting market obligations, citing a rise from previous years’ struggles when sufficient power was delivered without commiserate response in terms of payments; the DMD assured attendees of sustained progress in the delivery of better supply to the State.
Kebbi State’s Honourable Commissioner for Rural & Community Development, Hon. Garba Salisu Takware detailed the state government’s committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, where he tasked the committee with addressing electricity hurdles, including aging infrastructure. He reiterated the government’s commitment to infrastructure upgrades but stressed that community cooperation in bill payments remains critical.
Regional Manager Muhammad Sani Makinu raised concerns about energy theft and unauthorized cold rooms within residential neighbourhoods consuming excess power clandestinely, appealing to traditional rulers to assist in identifying such installations. He also called for community vigilance in protecting power equipment and reporting suspicious activities.
The forum featured interactive exchanges, with traditional rulers from Kebbi’s four emirates offering advice and feedback. Kaduna officials uniformly underscored the interdependence of reliable electricity, infrastructure investment, timely customer payments, and community engagement, pledging Kaduna Electric’s dedication to resolving complaints promptly and enhancing service quality across the state.
Finally, the Director, Nigerian Orientation Agency, Kebbi State Mohammed Nasir Karofi, reiterated on the need for Kaduna Electric to ensure prompt response to customer complaints whilst urging customers to uphold their rights in proper reporting of issues to Kaduna Electric in the appropriate manner.
