The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Kaduna Electric, Engr Yusuf Usman Yahaya has stated that electricity consumers have a critical role to play in ensuring energy security in the Country.
Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya made the assertion today in Kaduna when he received a delegation from Tsafe Development Forum, Zamfara State led by Wazirin Tsafe, Alhaji Haruna Sallau, mni.
He disclosed that the most pressing challenge threatening the nation’s power sector today is customers apathy towards payment of electricity bills and energy theft, a development which he said, has increasingly made it difficult for the sector to generate sufficient resources for network expansion and capacity development.
The Kaduna Electric boss also expressed concern over the rising unpaid electricity bills in Tsafe which stood at over 600 million naira as at September, 2023, maintaining that the positive response of customers towards payment of their bills will enable the Company meets its obligations to other players in the market as well as makes necessary investment in capacity expansion.
“We shall always be glad to provide electricity services to all communities in our franchise; however, this can only be sustained if the customers pay their bills in full”, he said.
Earlier in his remark, the Wazirin Tsafe, Alhaji Haruna Sallau appealed for the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer’s intervention in seeing to the replacement or repair of the faulty 2.5MVA power transformer serving Tsafe town.
Alhaji Haruna Sallau assured the Managing Director of the resolve of the leadership of the Tsafe Development Forum to mobilize the citizenry towards payment of electricity bills.
He also disclosed that the community shall work with the Kaduna Electric Office in Zamfara State to ensure that all households in the town are captured in the Company’s data base.
