The Kebbi State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources will work with Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to trim overgrown trees fouling power lines in Birnin-Kebbi, the State capital and environs.
The Director, Forestry Department of the Ministry, Alhaji Ibrahim Kegudu said that the tree trimming exercise will be done in an orderly manner and charged members of the general public to cooperate with the two organizations to make the exercise successful and hitch.
According to him, the he partnership has become necessary looking at how the branches of trees are resting on some of the power lines, thereby posing danger to safety of lives of the citizenry as well as critical power supply infrastructure.
“It is pertinent to state that trees resting on power lines can cause damage to the electrical facilities and also hinder the service delivery in the State”, he said.
While commenting on the Kebbi State Government’s initiative, the Head, Corporate Communication of Kaduna Electric, Abdulaziz Abdullahi welcomed the partnership and thanked the Government describing “Kebbi State Government as a long standing partner in progress”.
The trimming of the trees will not only provide a network free from unplanned tripping but a healthy environment for all, he said.
He added that the partnership will go along way to improving service delivery in the State, and also pleaded with the general public to bear with the Company for any temporary inconveniences the exercise may cause.
